Maxine

Maxine breaks our hearts.  She is a sweet, loving girl who has become handicapped as a result of her former owner's neglect.  Maxine is only 2 years old, but due to an ear infection that was left untreated, she has a tilt to her head.  When she came into our rescue, we immediately got her the veterinary treatment that she needed, but the damage had already been done.  Our doctors tell us that there is a possibility that she may remain this way for the rest of her life.  We are seeking out a specialist so that we can determine if anything can be done to correct the problem.

Maxine doesn't let her condition get in the way of her cheerful nature.  She would make a wonderful companion for someone who understands the suffering that she endured and wants to shower her with the love that she deserves.

Maxine was turned in by her owners because they didn't have space for her.  Maxine is housebroken and used to being around children.  She does not do well with some other dogs, probably because of the discomfort that she feels due to her condition.

Maxine just returned from an extended visit with our veterinarian, where she was treated with heavy doses of antibiotics to treat her ear infection.  Although there was some damage to her eardrum, the veterinarian feels that Maxine has a good chance to recover.  Her head is starting to return to an upright position, and we are hopeful that her progress will continue over the next few weeks.  The staff at the veterinary hospital said that Maxine was a great dog, and behaved very nicely while she was there.

Maxine is now ready to find a permanent home, and we are also looking for a foster home to care for her during her recovery period.  Read more about becoming Maxine's foster home here.  Can you find room in your heart for Maxine?
