Ruger

This inquisitive face belongs to Ruger, a 4 year old black and tan male.  He is an extra-large boy, weighing over 100 pounds.  He is used to children, cats, and even lived happily with the family Chihuahua.  He is very gentle, and has some obedience training.

Ruger was turned in by his owners because they said he was "too big".  They told us that if we wouldn't take him into the rescue, they were going to bring him straight over to the pound.  We don't understand why a family would adopt a German Shepherd into their home, then years later give him up because he became the big, handsome, classic-looking shepherd he was meant to be.  Clearly, these owners should have stuck with small breed dogs - like the Chihuahua!
