Those of us who have
worked in the rescue field for a number of years thought we had
heard everything, but this story rates right up there among the
most disturbing...
German Shepherd Rescue received
an urgent call from a family that needed to get not one but TWO
litters of puppies and their nursing mothers off their property
within 48 hours or face eviction from the landlord!
The story gets worse...
It seems that the puppies were
the result of an unsupervised 15-year-old boy's boredom.
Although the father had kept his two unaltered female shepherds separated
from his unaltered male shepherd, this irresponsible teenager
decided to put them together because he wanted to "watch them
do it". (The father can not explain why his dogs were
not altered in the first place.)
The family had permission to have
ONE dog, not EIGHTEEN at their rented property, so when the
landlord found out, she insisted that the puppies go
immediately. German Shepherd Rescue SCRAMBLED to scrape up
foster homes and get to the mothers and pups in time. As if
things weren't stressful enough, the family had no means of
transporting the mothers and puppies to us, so we had to make TWO
four-hour-round-trip drives to pick the dogs up! The man had
the nerve to ask for one of the mothers' collar back.
Duchess is an 18 month old
reluctant mother who is struggling to care for her four
puppies. She is black and tan and will be very striking when
her coat is restored to its "pre-pregnancy" glory and
when her mammary glands shrink. Duchess will be looking for a home
approximately September 1st when her puppies are weaned.
Please don't overlook this deserving mother who was forced to
participate in this "experiment" by an uncaring
teenager!
Duchess has four female puppies
that will be ready for adoption approximately August 31, after
they have had their shots and been spayed. They are purebred
shepherds but do not have AKC papers.
