Ace

Do you believe that beauty is only skin deep?

While picking up two other shepherds from a local animal shelter, the shelter workers pleaded with us to look at another shepherd who had just been turned in by his owners.  What we saw in the kennel was heartbreaking.  The dog had almost no fur covering his entire body!

As it turns out, Ace had been adopted from that same shelter only a few short months ago.  The adopter returned him to the shelter in this horrible condition.  They had not sought medical attention for him, and had let this case of non-contagious mange go to the point where the dog had very little fur left.  He stood in his kennel, with his head down in shame, shivering in the cold.  You could almost see the embarrassment that this dog felt at being seen in this condition.  His heart was broken, and he felt completely hopeless.

We rescued Ace as quickly as we could, and took him directly to a veterinarian.  There, he was given his first treatment, and was already on the road to recovery.  In just a few short days, he has already been making progress.  It turns out that Ace is one of the sweetest and most loving shepherds.  He is around 13 months old.  Once he gets over this mange, he is going to be a very handsome boy.  Although it looks scary, this kind of mange is NOT contagious to humans or other dogs.

Saving dogs like Ace is what the rescue is all about.  Ace had little or no chance of being adopted at the animal shelter.  None of the adopters could see past his terrible condition to recognize the beauty within.  We love to turn these stories into happy endings.  If you enjoy reading about these wonderful dogs, and want to do your part, please help us with a contribution -- big or small.  We hate to have to ask, but without your donations, we will not be able to help dogs like Ace who need medical treatment before they will be ready for adoption.  Click here to read about making a donation, and help dogs like Ace to find a wonderful family of their own.
