Callisto, or Callie as her
friends call her, is a beautiful 7 year old girl with big brown
eyes that are searching for someone to call her own. She has
a very pretty coat and nice proportions. She is well-behaved
and seems to get along nicely with people of all sizes, however
because of her age and arthritis, we would prefer to find her a
home where she can lead a quiet life. In return, she will
provide loyalty, love and the instinctively protective nature that
shepherds are famous for. Callie gets along with dogs her
own size, however we think that she would rather have a brother
dog than a sister dog.Callie was
picked up as a stray by animal control. She was not wearing
a collar or tags, and her front paw was bleeding.
Originally, the shelter vet thought that she had been hit by a
car, however it was later learned that she is sensitive on her
back end due to a nagging case of doggie arthritis. This can
be treated just as it is in humans with glucosamine and MSN, and a
good, healthy diet with moderate exercise. Callie asks for
very little -- just someone to provide her with safety, security,
a good belly scratch and plenty of love for the rest of her life.
We took Callie to a vet to have her hips
and back examined. During that examination, the vet
discovered that Callie has an inoperable tumor between her heart
and lungs. We are all devastated at this news. The vet
feels that Callie has another 6-12 months of quality life ahead of
her. The last thing that we want is for her to spend that
short time locked up in a boarding kennel. We are
desperately seeking a foster home in which Callie can spend the
last months of her life. German Shepherd Rescue will pay for
all of her food and medical bills. Please, if you are a
special person who can help give a final wish to a loving dog,
contact us right away.

A wonderful Thanksgiving miracle has occurred and our beautiful Callie
is safe and warm in her forever home! We are so very grateful to
everyone who inquired about Callie and sent well wishes and donations to
help with her care. A special hug to Robin R., the wonderful
person who will see Callie through the rest of her journey. Dreams
do come true!
