Gunther

Four-year-old Gunther has been waiting very, very long for someone special to love him.  He is the longest-term resident in our care by no fault of his own.  You see, Gunther is not a picture-perfect shepherd.  He has a deformed ear that probably arose when a neglectful owner left an inner ear infection untreated, causing Gunther to shake his head to relieve the pain.  The shaking created a blood clot on the ear, which eventually caused the deformity.

Those of us who know Gunther positively ADORE his clownish personality, his keen learning skills, and his loving nature, but so far everyone looking for a canine companion keeps passing him over because of his "cauliflower ear".  It hurts our hearts to see Gunther trying so hard to be noticed at adoption events... he is so cheerful and good-natured, but no one ever chooses him and he has to return to his kennel run weekend after weekend.

Gunther got lucky once -- FINALLY!  Last year, a caring family adopted him and took him home.  He loved playing with the older children in the home, romping in the yard, and sleeping by his master's bed.  But a child in the home developed an obsessive compulsive condition that made her obsessively fearful of dog germs, so reluctantly and tearfully, the family returned Gunther to us, even though he had tried his best to be a perfect family member.

If you are the kind of person who believes that it's what's INSIDE that counts, please don't overlook this sweet and silly boy!  He is housebroken, leash trained, knows his basic commands and loves to go for car rides.  He will do best as an only dog, or with a female dog his own size, and definitely will guard your home against any feline intruders.  He is not a great dog for the dog park, but he IS a loyal and loving pal for just hanging out with and sharing secrets.  He has been waiting so long to be someone's special boy!

PLEASE TAKE A SECOND LOOK AT THIS HAPPY GO LUCKY BOY AND CONSIDER MAKING HIS WISHES FOR A FAMILY COME TRUE!
