Ricky is a handsome
10 month old sable German Shepherd boy with a heart of gold and an
endearing smile. He weighs around 58 pounds right now, and will
stay on the small side. When the volunteer picked him up from a
high-kill shelter on D-day, he pranced proudly beside her, all
smiles and polite wags for everyone he met. He walks well on a
leash and is a perfect gentleman in the car.
He is currently in a foster home
with three other German Shepherds, a bird, and a variety of people
coming and going, and everything is A-OK with him. He plays
happily with the bigger dogs, but when the playing gets too
energetic for him he goes off and throws a toy around for himself,
equally enjoying himself on his own. He is completely content and
relaxed his crate, and considers it a welcome reprieve from the
non-stop play of his (older and bigger) canine companions.
He appears to know some basic
obedience commands, and responds willingly to guidance. He loves
to sit at your feet, his back on your shins, enjoying some good,
sound petting; eyes half-closed with a huge ear-to-ear grin on his
face. His selection of chew-toys have all been "legal" dog toys.
He appears to be equally content in a crate in a room by himself,
or with people or canine company around. Nothing seems to phase
him. He is already housebroken.
We'd like to place Ricky in a
active home because he's a youngster. Since he's on the
small side, he might be a perfect choice for a family with young
children who wants a German Shepherd but can't risk the kids being
bowled over by a bigger, more rambunctious dog. He's a
gentle, good-natured soul, and will be a loving, devoted, and
delightful lifelong companion.
