Brie is a mystery wrapped around a shepherd's body.
Two of our volunteers were out on a horse trail when
they came across what they thought was a coyote. They
rode past but the woman turned back for another look.
What she found was an extremely emaciated German
Shepherd that was losing its hair! They worked
extremely hard to trap the dog who acted feral and was
very scared around people. Once they had her they
realized that she had a beautiful and expensive leather
collar but no tags. They brought her to us to see if
she was adoptable.
She was extremely thin, her fur was very sparse, and
overall Brie was in extremely poor condition. She was
terrified and did not appear to want to have anything to
do with people. She did love getting regular meals and
having a big, fluffy bed! Our volunteers began working
with her. For two weeks she did not show aggression but
she did not want to be touched. We would take her for
walks but she would not look at us or interact with us
in any way. One of our volunteers took this as a
challenge and sat with Brie in her kennel. She noticed
that Brie was extremely interested in another dog who
was running up and down the kennel aisle with a ball
(see Chase). What the heck? Let's give her a ball!
Once our volunteer showed Brie the ball, her eyes lit
up! She caught the ball in her mouth and brought it
over to the volunteer and dropped it at her feet. Brie
had turned the corner and realized that people could be
trusted!
Brie has turned in to one of the most loving and
affectionate dogs at the rescue! She loves to get
attention. In fact, she will fling herself on the
ground in front of a volunteer to get a belly rub! She
is equally friendly with everyone she meets. This is
amazing considering what this dog went through. Once we
were able to clean her up we realized that she had a
pellet wound. Someone had shot at this sweet girl! No
wonder she did not know who to trust when we first got
her! She is extremely playful and loves other dogs.
She is so gentle that we are not sure how she survived
on her own! We have NO IDEA how old she is. She looks
older but her teeth are great and she acts young. She
even seems to like cats. She is bouncy and makes
everyone laugh at her antics. Brie deserves a forever
home so that she can lounge in luxury and love for the
rest of her life.
Brie is at our rescue facility in Burbank. If
