Brianna

Brianna has lived the entire first few years of her life at the end of a short chain in someone's yard without any shelter from the heat, cold or rain and without any basic medical care or grooming. Her owner didn't even realize that she was a girl and named her "Buddy." She slept in her own excrement.

Luckily for Brianna, her owner was thrown in prison (for selling drugs) and the family didn't want to be bothered having to give her food or water. They brought her to a shelter they said, "to get rid of her." In the shelter she received food and water but was never bathed and the filth of five years attracted not hundreds but thousands of flies that continued to literally eat her alive under the watchful eye' of Los Angeles shelter workers. She shook her head violently in an attempt to chase the flies away.

When she came to us, she required several baths to clean her up. Once she was clean the flies left her alone, but she was left with hematomas (bleeding) in her ears from shaking her head so violently, and swelling of the tissue both inside and out where the flies had been biting her. She is under a veterinarian's care now.

In spite of all she has been through, Brianna is relaxed and easy-going. She doesn't have a mean bone in her body. She will probably get along well with other non-aggressive dogs and likes both men and women equally. After her bath she was allowed to run at the end of a long lead and she really enjoyed that. She loves being able to go for a walk and stops to smell everything and look at everything along the way. We let her! She is fine when left alone (she is sadly used to that) and demonstrates no separation anxiety whatsoever.

Brianna loves whatever attention she receives from our volunteers. She would undoubtedly make a good family dog with older teenage children who won't pull on her ears. She's also do fine with a couple or single individual. Most of all, we want the remainder of Brianna's life to be what she has never experienced before - a caring and loving home. A comfortable place to sleep indoors, good food and treats would all just be icing on the cake!
