03/09/10 - We wish to thank everyone for supporting our dearest Jackie! Her surgery has been paid for, thanks to you!! All the visitors, good thoughts and donations have made a world of difference for Jackie. She is healing well and her first set of xrays following the surgery look great! Jackie is the happiest dog on earth - she'll never know she was saved in just the nick of time. She'll soon be ready to go home! In spite of her previous injury she is an active young girl with plenty of energy. From what we've observed so far, she really is the perfect dog - good with kids, other dogs and perhaps, even cats.
02/24/10 - It's been a week since Jackie's surgery. The surgery was long and went very well; we appreciate our vet staff for staying late into the night for Jackie! It will be a long road to recovery, but Jackie is enjoying all the people who dote on her. She adores her canine foster sister, Stella and wants to play, but playtime must wait a few weeks until healing is complete. She is being fostered during the week by our volunteer who keeps a close eye on her and has observed Jackie snuggled in her kennel with Stella - her new friend - snuggled right up against her kennel at night. - Jackie will be at the Rescue during the weekend if you would like to meet her. She will be looking for a forever home in a few weeks...
02/14/10 - Jackie is at our vet's office resting comfortably. She will have surgery this week to repair the broken, shattered femur. The pelvic fracture should heal on its own.
The surgery will cost $2,000! Although our hearts are huge, our bank account is depleted and we don't know how were are going to pay the bill. We are hoping Jackie has fans out there who want to be a part of her recovery and ensure her a happy ending. Every donation is tax deductible and hugely APPRECIATED!
02/13/10 - It is Valentine's weekend and Jackie's outlook is grim. She was hit by a car and picked up by animal control. Jackie's femur is broken and shattered. She also has a fracture in the bone of her pelvis. The pain is unthinkable, yet Jackie has waited over 2 weeks in the medical area at the shelter for someone to claim her. Sadly, nobody has come and Jackie's time is running out. In spite of the pain, shelter workers remark on her lovely disposition, happy tail wags and kisses - all from the dog with one dangling leg. The shelter sent out a plea for someone to rescue her, but still no one has come.
We received the plea and rushed to save her. We don't have the funds to do it, but we could not leave sweet, happy Jackie to die.
We bailed her out of the shelter and headed straight to our vet. It's hard to imagine, but during the drive, "thump, thump, thump," Jackie's tail was wagging a mile a minute with joy! She was safe now and she knew it!
