After over 25 very successful years in Burbank, we no longer have the resources to maintain two facilities, and will be consolidating German Shepherd Rescue to our Tehachapi location. In June, we are planning to put the Burbank facility up for sale.
No dog will be left behind, and our strict no-kill policy will remain. We will need to build new runs in Tehachapi to accommodate both transfers from Burbank and expansion to support more dogs. Tehachapi's varying weather -- very cold in the winter and hot in the summer -- means that we need to ensure all the housing there is appropriate. This is especially important for our permanent residents who are elderly or have medical problems.
We hope to be housing many more dogs -- continuing to take in adoptable ones as well as those who need help -- the dogs that no one else will take.
We are looking for a donation of a livable mobile home for a caretaker to live in. It is very important to us that the dogs are well taken care of in a well cared for facility. We are also looking for donations of chain link fencing and other materials suitable for building dog runs. And as in the past, all other donations of food, supplies, dog toys, or money are always needed.
Because of the distance, we understand that we will lose many of our volunteers that walk the dogs, make visits to the vet, clean, feed, and help with adoptions. We greatly appreciate all the help they have provided in the past and hope to continue to see them. Visitors and volunteers (both new and old) are always most welcome at the Tehachapi sanctuary.
German Shepherd Rescue plans to continue to help German Shepherds for many years to come.
